A question for the believers out there. Now that an official police investigation is being done, will you still believe if they come back with a report of hoax? I know if they come back and say ot was a real event i will take their word!
I wonder will they find and interview Raj? And if so will he be charged for the cost of the investigation if it is indeed discovered to be a hoax?

Did we ever get to know where Chad lives ?

Hard to tell, Capitola I presume, he said he could see it out his window.

Doubt it very much, but then again......who knows. ::)

Unfortunate but I believe we heard the last of Raj, unless the Capitola PD get lucky

Thanks for the welcome. :)

For me at least, it is suspicious that just when the original size pictures (with the EXIF data showing the pictures went through Photoshop) are made available, the account is "hacked." Coincidence?

so rajman1977 either used photoshop to import the images off the camera memory stick or used photoshop to tweak the images.

or flickr does some wierd behind the scene conversions using a photoshop script or something - which is almost 100% unlikely.

or...hoax.

Given what the Dectitive says, if this is a Hoax, and that is the way it is looking, IMO, How can any pictures be trusted in the future.

this part is odd though, the raj photos have an exif date for the picture being taken as 5-16-07, but this is also in the .jpg;

<xap:CreatorTool>Adobe Photoshop CS2 Windows</xap:CreatorTool>
<xap:CreateDate>2007-05-20T13:04:39-07:00</xap:CreateDate>
<xap:ModifyDate>2007-05-20T13:04:39-07:00</xap:ModifyDate>
<xap:MetadataDate>2007-05-20T13:04:39-07:00</xap:MetadataDate>

can anyone with a flickr pro account check their original highest resolution pics and check to see if flickr is adding this metadata?

ok, i uploaded a full res .tif and a .jpg to my free flickr account.
while flickr does convert the .tif to a jpg, it does not embedded any adobe photoshop metadata in the files.

i think this is the smoking gun.

OK - now we're moving. 8-)

Chief Ehle has passed on the details to detective Mark Gonzales of Capitola PD.

He has now opened an investigation into this whole thing. I will keep you all informed of course as soon as I hear anything.

Here is his initial report:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am a Detective here at Capitola Police Department. We have not had any reports from citizens regarding a UFO sighting. This internet story is the first I have ever heard of the UFO.

Capitola is 2.2 square miles and our citizens call on anything and everything. We even get calls from cat feces on lawns to sick seagull birds. Our citizens are very watchful and notify police on any strange event. From my experience with this community, I believe we would have at least one hundred callers notifying our dispatch center of the sighting. With that said, we have a centralized dispatch center who take all calls for the entire county. Therefore, even if the sighting was just outside of our city limits, I would know about it.

Let's assume the sighting is true and correct. We as a police department need to investigate. I have sent a few emails to websites stating my name, position and interest in contacting the eye witnesses. At this time, I have nothing other than Rajman1977 and "chad". If you have any emails for these people, please let me know so I can interview them and determine if this is a hoax or for real.

Take care,
Mark Gonzalez
Detective Capitola Police

Oh oh... Admin, I smell a cover up brewing. First, the chief tells you, oh yeah, I know all about it. It's a real ufo. They also reported it in Tahoe.

Now suddenly it's been handed off to a "detective" who says he never heard of it. ??? Shades of General Ramey if you ask me. ::)
